Let’s be real about something that nobody seems to talk about: Flange sizing is HARD.
In fact, it’s so challenging even lactation professionals (to include IBCLCs) struggle with helping parents achieve pain-free pumping.
At Mattos Lactation we take a triple prong approach to flange sizing which leads to quick resolution of pain & quickly improves output so that you can stop hating pumping sooner.
Yes, even if you’re using the Willow. Especially if you’re using the Willow!
You should schedule a Standard Flange Sizing or Prenatal Flange sizing if you:
Use a pump but have never been formally sized
Know you’re using the wrong size but are unsure of what size you should use
Have super elastic or “tricky” anatomy
Plan to get a the new pump and want to save money in the long run vs buying a whole bunch of options hoping that something works
Want to avoid pain and damage
A Standard Flange Sizing or Prenatal Flange sizing is NOT for you if you have:
Nipple sensitivity between pumps or nursing sessions
Experience pinching, stinging, burning, or irritation during, after, or between pumps
Have blisters, open wounds, cracks or bruising on either nipple
A tied baby or suspect your baby has a tongue tie (and are nursing)
If you’re having any nipple discomfort, a pain and damage consult is better suited for your needs. Check it out here!
